Applied Optoelectronics Announces 400G Short Reach Transceiver
AOI’s 400G SR8 transceiver utilizes PAM-4 encoding to deliver 50 Gbps data throughput on each of 8 separate multi-mode optical channels. Utilizing low-cost Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology, the 400G SR8 transceivers are cost-effective solutions for interconnecting switches within the data center over distances up to 70 meters over OM3 fibers. As large datacenter operators begin to implement switches with net throughput of 12.8 Tbps, 400G optical transceivers are expected to be needed in larger quantities.
Features of these transceivers include:
- QSFP-DD type1 form factor
- Compliant with IEEE 802.3cd 200GBASE-SR4 and IEEE 802.3bs/400GAUI-8
- Compliant with the latest Common Management Interface Specification
- Available in both MPO16 and MPO24 optical connector types
“The newly-announced 400G SR8 transceivers are a great complement to our line of intermediate-reach data center transceivers,” commented
The 400G SR8 transceivers add to AOI’s previously-announced 400G product family, which includes Onboard Optics (OBO) modules as well as Active Optical Cables (AOCs).
The new devices are currently available for sampling, with volume production expected in the third quarter of 2019. For more information, including pricing, please contact the AOI sales team at sales@ao-inc.com.
