Applied Optoelectronics to Present at WDM-PON Forum

June 6, 2014

SUGAR LAND, Texas, June 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:AAOI), a leading provider of fiber-optic access network products for the cable broadband, internet data center, and fiber-to-the-home markets, announces that its chief strategy officer, Dr. Stefan Murry, will speak at the WDM-PON Forum Workshop in the 16th Annual Next Generation Optical Networking conference.

The WDM-PON Forum Workshop will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Nice Acropolis in Nice, France.

Dr. Murry will present information on the latest advances in Wavelength Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Network ("WDM-PON") technology, focusing on optical devices that enable deployment of Gigabit-class WDM-PON access networks.

WDM-PON is a next-generation optical access technology that combines the low deployment costs of a PON network with the ultra-high bandwidth of a DWDM network, thereby enabling gigabit-class services at costs per user that are competitive with current PON architectures.

Dr. Murry is a founding board member of the WDM-PON forum and has spoken widely about optical access technologies. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Houston in 1999, and he holds nine patents relating to optical communications technologies.

About the WDM-PON Forum

The WDM-PON Forum was founded in 2009 with the goal of providing a resource for researchers, component and equipment suppliers, carriers, and other parties interested in passive optical networking technologies that utilize dedicated wavelengths as a method to provision services in access networks and to promote and advance the technologies required to enable cost-effective wavelength division multiplexing in Passive Optical Networks. The forum endeavors to advance these technologies as means to provide high bandwidth, scalable services with physical-layer security, low energy consumption, and low total lifetime cost of ownership.
